Reserve Meritage 2009
ABOUT THE WINE
The grapes are hand-picked from select vineyards and lots which exhibit the potential to go into our top wines. The individual lots are fermented in open top fermenters, hand-punched daily to break the surface cap, and undergo malolactic fermentation and aging in newer French and American oak barrels. The individual varietals are oak aged separately for 10 months, then the final assemblage (50% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 15% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) is blended from the best barrels identified by our winemaker, Karen Gillis. The Meritage Reserve is then put back into barrel, a further 4 months, to allow the wines to integrate, before bottling. Limited production of 1355 cases.
TASTING NOTES
This Meritage Reserve is the ‘King of the Flock’ with its beautiful bouquet of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, currant, cedar chest, cigar box, vanilla and barrel spice notes. This medium to full-bodied wine has soft tannins and perfect poise, plus wonderful flavours of juicy red and black berries, cherry and spice. The lingering finish mimics the palate with added notes of black tea. Enjoy now through 2014.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Excellent with grilled lamb chops; grilled porterhouse steak with sautéed mushrooms; prime rib with Yorkshire pudding; pot roast; grilled red pepper and eggplant skewers; 2 year old Canadian cheddar.
